Alebrijes are Mexican folk art at it’s best. Traditionally,
they are carved from copal wood by the men of a handful
of Oaxacan villages. The women of the family paint and
decorate the animal sculptures with vivid colors and
painstaking patterns of dots and tiny lines. Each piece is
a unique work of folk art full of whimsy and character.
